  Continuing Education Class

What's really engaging about the class we are holding until the end of 2016 is that it covers the idea of deeper learning from what we see around us everyday in our work with patients and in our lives with family and friends. 'How Talking Cures' and 'Fear of Success' have been a mystery until the neurobiologists validated Freud's theories.  Psychoanalyst, Dr. Lucy Holmes will be spending the day with us in symposium January 21, 2017 in Las Vegas. Our class is designed to generate questions, ideas and new thoughts from our readings of her book, "Wrestling with Destiny - the promise of psychoanalysis". Routledge, 2013.

Currently, the class meets every other week on Monday for 90 minutes in the evening at 7:00pm. The fee of $30 is paid at the end of each class session. You may join the class and attain a copy of this reading by calling (702) 324-8416

In the past our classes have focused on what people want to learn, some of the subjects we have covered already are found below and if you would like to learn these subjects please contact Dr. Palasky who will then address the subject that interests you

There are 6 subjects that we cover in a 12-week period:

    1. Experiential learning [Instead of competitive learning]

    2. Transference [An introduction to the idea from Freud]

    3. Narcissism [Greek myths to modern psychoanalytic concept]

    4. Aggression [Beginning with newborn's first feelings]

    5. Resistance [Methods of reducing opposition and defiance]

    6. Maturation [The core of continuing education that never ends]

For those in the mental health practice, who apply for continuing education units from their Board of Examiners, a total of 9 CEU's may be granted for the whole series of 1.5 CEU for each class attended.

For those in others fields, engaged in experiential psychoanalytic learning, one certificate of completion citing the subject of each class will be awarded upon request.

NOTE: These are "self-selected" classes. If you have an interest in any of the subjects, feel free to come to those classes--any or all of them! You will learn at the level of your life experiences, so anywhere you choose to begin will create an advance in what you know.

There are 6 subjects that we will cover in a 14-week period:

        1. Listening to Understand-- Curiosity without Judgment

        2. Recognizing Forms of Transference -- Therapeutic Use of Transference

        3. Primary & Secondary Narcissism - Healthy and Unhealthy Narcissism

        4. Using the Energy of One's Anger Constructively - Managing Aggression

        5. Resistant Interactions -- Joining, Mirroring and Reflecting

        6. Developmental Issues -- Resolution Toward Maturation

A last word about paper work required:

(1) Before each class, a reading that pertains to the subject matter is given out -- study it, mark it up, bring it to the next class, kept it in your library.

(2) 5x8" cards are distributed for a 'private communication' to be written to the instructor. The confidential communication can be about: insights from the readings too personal to share in class, emotions too strong to share in class, or random thoughts and free associations not joining into the flow of current class communications.

(3) After 3 class subjects are covered, a paper is due. Relate it to what you know from experience and any new thoughts, feelings, or ideas from the readings. Please type it with grammar, spelling, and punctuation--limit the production to a 1 to 3 page paper. Include your name, date, and title at the top.
